I HAVE just received a letter from British Gas informing me that they will be forced to raise their prices due to UK gas reserves are in decline forcing them to buy more gas from outside the UK. They explain: "This, coupled with the continued high oil prices, means that energy suppliers are seeing substantial increases in the cost of providing gas and electricity to consumers." more...

A BARRY couple's lives have been changed forever thanks to the massive Admiral payout. Kath Denton and Kat Harding both work for the insurance company and have benefited from a generous windfall, after their employers sold off a stake worth about 10 percent it its value, estimated at £776m. Kath, 37, had no idea when she started working for Admiral just over seven years ago that this could ever happen. Not only did she meet Kat after she joined 16 months ago, Kath is now in a position to alter her entire lifestyle. She told the News: "When staff found out about five years ago the company was going to be sold off, we wondered what the outcome would be, but never imagined it could ever be this good. "When we were told how much we could be expecting, it was a total shock." The decision to float on the Stock Exchange came five years after Admiral was sold to its management team in a buy-out backed by Barclays Private Equity. Around 1,400 staff in Cardiff and Swansea, who are members of the company's share-ownership scheme, qualified for the payouts. Individual windfalls depend on length of service, with some staff set to make hundreds of thousands of pounds. Kath doesn't want to reveal the exact figure she and Kat have received between them, but it is enough to completely alter their lives. She added: "Kat, Ollie and I are going to start by travelling to places we've always wanted to go. "Then we're seriously considering moving abroad - again it's something we've always wanted to do, but never had the resources. "And I've always wanted to try my hand at writing. This has given us a chance to look at life in a completely different way. It's unbelievable. "Everyone who has been working for the company since April has been given a bonus. "It's like everyone has won the lottery and the atmosphere is wonderful." more...
